Flexi-chin stop installation guide10/25/2023 Photos coming soon! Installing a flexible chin stop in your fursuit base can be done in several ways. You can cut, sand, glue, and even sew through the chin stop to fit various types of bases.
Safety first! Always use appropriate safety equipment and work in a well-ventilated area. This is especially crucial when working with paints, primers, glues, or sanding. Good luck with your fursuit project! Before installing the chin stop, test fit the fursuit head by wearing it and marking where your chin rests. For loose heads or those with moving jaws, lift the head forward slightly so that it doesn't dig into your neck. Next, hold the flexi-chin stop in place and see how it rests on the base, ensuring the front edge lines up with the mark you made. If the base is nearly flat in this area, you can simply glue the tabs down. But if it's more curved, you may need to cut a small piece of foam to fit in the center. Glue the tabs down over this to make a smooth connection to the base. Remember that the tabs can be trimmed back if they are too large, but be sure to leave enough to glue! If you choose to glue it, I recommend using a gel-based superglue for best results. Alternatively, you can sew the chin-stop down to heavy-duty velcro and add another piece to the base. This way, the chin stop will be adjustable if multiple people will be wearing it! It's best to put the soft side of the velcro on the base and the loop side on the chin-stop. This way, you can wear it without the chin-stop if needed. Fursuit Flexi-Harness installation guide10/25/2023 If you plan to install a flexi-harness on a fursuit base, there are several ways to do it. It's best to do this early in the process before adding ears, foam work or padding. Regardless of your chosen method, ensure the rectangle rings are still attached, and the elastic is not twisted. If you need to, you can always remove the harness (except for the rectangle rings) and re-thread it after installation. Safety first! Please remember to use appropriate safety equipment and work in a well-ventilated area or use a proper respirator, especially if you're working with paints, primers, glues, or other hazardous supplies.
Resin fursuit claw guide10/25/2023
Preparation Before installing or modifying your resin fursuit claws, it is recommended to wash them with hot, soapy water to remove any residual mold release. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth to gently scrub them and let them air dry completely.
Modification
Resin parts can be sanded, carved or dremeled if needed. It's best to do this outside or somewhere you can safely contain the dust, and wear a face mask. If you need to shorten, hollow out, or completely remove the base, make sure to wash them again afterward to remove any dust. If you want to add onto the existing claw, you can use any air-drying sculpting compound. Do not use a compound that requires baking such as 'Sculpey', as heat may damage the original resin and potentially release harmful vapors. 'Fixit Sculpt Epoxy Clay' is preferred. Painting When painting resin claws, you can use artist-grade acrylics (such as Golden), good-quality model paints (Vallejo), or any spray paint designed for plastics. Using cheaper paints will require many more layers and may result in rubbing off the first coats. Additionally, cheap paints do not tend to be color-fast, and your beautiful paint job could end up turning muddy greys and browns. If you are doing a complex paint job or changing the base color drastically, use a coat of plastic primer first. Useful Products Some useful products to have on hand include LePage Ultra Gel Control Super Glue E6000 Craft Adhesive Apoxie® Sculpt Krylon Colormaster™ White Primer Golden Heavy Body Acrylic Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear You can find most of these products at local arts and crafts stores, hobby shops, or home improvement centers. Most products designed for plastic minatures will work well, a local hobby shop is a great resource for paints, primers, glues and sealants. |
